Publisher - Humanities

Are you an ambitious and motivated publishing professional looking for the next step in your career as a Publisher?  Do you like the idea of  successfully growing a portfolio of  well-regarded journals? Due to continued growth, a highly successful, global publishing company is looking to recruit a Publisher to join this busy, friendly team to steer the development and evolution of a prestigious list of journals in Politics and IR. This is a responsible and demanding role which involves managing a team of two managing editors and two editorial assistants.

Working closely with the Associate editorial Director on strategic issues, the Publisher will oversee the existing publishing programme, commission and acquire new products, whilst developing and ensuring revenue growth across the list.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Responsibility for achieving agreed annual target level of revenue and profitability
  • Management of Managing Editors and Editorial Assistants
  • Commissioning, acquiring and managing a portfolio to an agreed level of revenue and profit
  • Manage the transition of acquired titles and publish existing programme
  • Motivating individual team performance to ensure signings, revenue, profitability and growth targets are met
  • Work close with Associate Editorial Director and other colleagues on global publishing strategies, staffing issues, budgetary and financial planning and industry developments

This is a fabulous role for an ambitious individual with proven experience in either a journal or books editorial background looking for a broader role with more responsibility and the opportunity to develop a highly-regarded portfolio of journals.  You will have experience of managing/mentoring a team, and some experience of dealing with budgets and financial planning.  You will have sound commercial acumen, possess the ability to meet deadlines; have exceptional organisational and communication skills.  You may be an experienced Commission or Acquisitions Editor looking to take the next step in your career.
