Publisher (Maternity Cover)

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and senior Editor to join a digital product team within a leading publisher in Oxford to drive the production of digital products forward for the business. Working closely with the Editorial Director, you will be managing a team of editors, overseeing the projects as they go through production. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a solid understanding of how digital products are produced and enjoys seeing projects through to completion. This is a maternity cover position.

Key duties:

  • Oversee the development and production process of digital products to budget and to schedule
  • Manage the future pipeline of products
  • Performance manage and provide leadership to the editorial team
  • Manage the development and presentation of project proposals for internal and external stakeholders
  • Commission new products including contract negotiation
  • Create and oversee P&Ls and financial plans
  • Maintain existing business partnerships and create future opportunities nationally and internationally
  • Build strong relationships with Sales and Marketing to ensure mutual awareness of the current pipeline and priorities
  • Keep abreast of market trends, technological developments, competitor activity and customer need to ensure that products and platform remain relevant and commercially viable
  • Ensure that team travel remains within budget
  • Provide constructive feedback and input to Editorial Director and other colleagues on relevant issues and developments

Experience / skills required:

  • Experience working in a digital product development and production environment across subject areas
  • A solid understanding of product and platform development
  • Industry and market awareness to inform decisions on product commissioning and development
  • An understanding of academic and library buying patterns, and the factors that drive purchase and usage of online primary source collections
  • Working with senior library and archive staff
  • Team management experience, including management of remote workers
  • Financial and budgetary planning experience
