Publishing Consultant

We are looking for an academic publishing professional to provide approximately 8-12 weeks consultancy to the publishing team of a professional organisation for social sciences researchers and professionals. Ideally commencing 1st October 2019, this opportunity would suit a Publisher level professional with a background in scholarly or academic publishing and ideally a background in social sciences.  The consultant can be home based, but will need to attend meetings at the offices in Leicester, as required.

 The consultant would be commissioned to:

  • Analyse and advise on the quality of the existing portfolio of journals and periodicals
  • Assist with the categorisation of the publications in terms of tone and readership
  • Advise on best practice and digital solutions in academic/scholarly publishing to enable maximum discoverability by academic search discovery tools

Skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience at Publisher level in academic publishing
  • A social science background, ideally psychology
  • A broad view of the market and up-to-date knowledge of best practice technical solutions and workflows
  • The ability to assess a large portfolio of journals, understanding the tension between publishing quality and member services
  • Experience of transitioning publications from print to digital
  • Knowledge of utililsing technology to increase discoverability
