Our client, an award-winning and prestigious comic magazine and book publisher based in Oxford, is seeking a Publishing Financial Officer to join their financial team. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, this role focuses on supporting the publisher's financial and strategic functions. Key responsibilities include preparing monthly management accounts, conducting detailed internal reporting, and overseeing the annual budgeting process. Additionally, the Publishing Financial Officer will manage and update data management systems, with a particular emphasis on transitioning to Power BI.
Main responsibilities will include
- Prepare monthly financial reports for DFB and DFC, including profit and loss, cash flow, and balance sheets.
- Provide detailed reports and analysis for different parts of the company.
- Creating annual budgets for all business units and divisions.
- Manage and update data systems, focusing on moving analysis from spreadsheets to Power BI.
- Perform book-level analysis, including profit and loss and cash flows, and assess strategic initiatives such as diversifying distribution suppliers.
- Evaluate the return on investment (ROI) of sales incentives for key suppliers.
- Continuously review and enhance processes, collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Assess new business initiatives, including financial and market evaluations, and manage expansion projects.
- Analyse subscription and cross-sales data to optimise profitability and recommend sales strategies.
- Perform various financial and operational tasks as needed.
This role requires a qualified accountant with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in data analysis, reporting, and making business recommendations, along with experience in budget management and reporting. Strong project management skills are essential, as is experience in evaluating and implementing new data management systems. Experience in publishing, e-commerce, or direct-to-consumer industries is desirable. This position demands a blend of financial expertise, strategic assessment capabilities, and project management skills, with a focus on leveraging data to drive business decisions and improvements.
