Assistant Editor

Independent Publisher of the Year Pushkin Press is looking for an Assistant Editor to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with at least two years’ experience within an editorial team, looking to take the next step in their career as an editor, to work across Pushkin Press’s imprints.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with editors on a variety of fiction, non-fiction and children’s titles, and working closely with the Managing Editor, as well as liaising with the sales, design, marketing and publicity teams, authors and translators
  • Editorial project management including editing, copy-writing, proof checking and clearing permissions
  • Crafting AIs and updating the BiblioLive database, as well as other metadata, ensuring schedules and deadlines are met, preparing sales materials
  • Looking after grant applications and prize submissions
  • Reading and reporting on manuscripts, and contributing to acquisitions discussions

You will be a voracious reader with a demonstrable interest in Pushkin Press’s publishing. You’ll have a minimum of two years’ experience in an editorial role and be eager to grow your skills and responsibilities as part of our friendly independent team. You’ll have an energetic and flexible approach to work, be self-motivated with excellent organisational, time management and planning skills, as well as strong communication and copywriting skills. You’ll be full of ideas and combine a passionate and creative approach to the books you work on with meticulous attention to detail.

The role will be based at our office in Somerset House in central London. We are currently working to a hybrid home/office model, with Tuesday – Thursday office days for all full-time staff. Our working day is 9.30am – 5.30pm Monday – Friday with flexible working by arrangement. Benefits include 20 days holiday (rising to 25 days with length of service) plus bank holidays, pension, and optional remote working throughout the month of August.

Salary range: £27,000+, depending on experience. NB: This is not an entry-level position.
