Commissioning Editor

£27,000 – £56,100 per annum

One year fixed term contract

London or any national office

What you’ll be doing

We are looking for a Commissioning Editor to cover parental leave for a year. You will take ownership of already acquired titles while on the lookout to commission new books for 2023. You will help develop and nurture the authors you are taking care of, support them in realising their vision for the book, and liaise with the Marketing, Publicity and Sales teams to make sure they have everything they need to make these successful publications. Reporting to the Publisher, you will have a track-record of working in health, lifestyle and popular culture.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with lots of energy, organisational skills and focus, who is confident and autonomous when it comes to taking ownership of books and seeing them through to publishing. The titles you will be inheriting are largely health and lifestyle ones, as well as the paperbacks of brand name authors.

What we offer

Our staff are our greatest asset and our benefits reflect this. In addition to 25 days annual leave per year + bank holidays, we have an extensive list of benefits that include: a wide-ranging training library, development programmes including mentoring, Cycle to Work vouchers, eye care vouchers, up to 70% off book purchases, a charity book shelf, 2 volunteer days per year to use at your charity of choice, many employee networks to join, delicious subsidized canteen food, summer hours (finishing at 1pm on Fridays during the summer months!), season ticket loans, rent deposit loans, generous pension schemes and much more!

Who we are and what we do

Named Small Publisher of the Year and Publisher of the Year in its first decade in business, Quercus has quickly built a reputation as one of the UK’s most vibrant and creative publishing houses. Home to a wide range of bestsellers from The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight to Stories for Boys Who Dare to be Different by Ben Brooks, and from SAS Bravo Three Zero by Damien Lewis to Before & Laughter by Jimmy Carr, our Non-Fiction list is deliberately varied, carefully curated and always exciting.

Our Commitment

Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds. If you are shortlisted and need us to make any adjustments to help you attend for interview, please let us know.
