Sales Manager

We are looking for a Sales Manager to join the London team of five people, based in Bloomsbury but with the option for flexible working. As a member publisher of the Independent Alliance, Scribe’s Sales Manager will work closely with the sales team at Faber and Faber and our distributor GBS to monitor sales and stock, process orders, and communicate with the trade about our titles. They will also contribute to acquisitions decisions and strategy, participate in discussions around covers, produce analysis of titles’ sales performance, and advise on print runs. They will have oversight for Scribe’s metadata, supply book information to retailers as needed, and work with other staff members to ensure that Scribe titles are appearing on Amazon and have maximum online visibility. They will also participate in bookseller outreach, liaising with the Booksellers’ Association and individual bookshops to build relationships with the trade and keep developing the audience for Scribe’s titles.

The ideal candidate will have good numeracy skills, be confident using Microsoft Excel and learning new systems, and be familiar with best practice in book metadata. They will be a strong communicator and share our enthusiasm for independent, thought-provoking publishing. They will have management experience and be prepared to line-manage an assistant. They will be a confident and compelling communicator, and able to build relationships effectively with a range of organisations and individuals. They are likely to have at least three years of experience in book sales, within a publishing firm or as a bookseller. Good judgement, good humour, and an ability to take the initiative are essential.

The salary range is £30-35K.
