Senior Children's Editor

An independent Trade publisher is looking for a Senior Editor to join their children’s imprint in London. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Senior Editor to work on a range of non-fiction projects including illustrated non-fiction, activity books and picture books. If you are a creative individual with a passion for children’s publishing then we would love to hear from you! This is a maternity cover contract to last for approximately one year.

Key duties:

  • Commission authors’ texts and edit, fact-check and proofread page layouts
  • Contribute to the development of new product ideas from conception to completion
  • Provide feedback to artists on artwork
  • Ensure books are produced on time and to budget
  • Work closely with internal editors to crosscheck books
  • Liaise with Sales and Publicity to highlight business opportunities and present titles at conferences
  • Issue contracts to authors, artists and designers
  • Work with designers regarding internal layouts
  • Conduct market research into children’s books and be knowledgeable about trends

Experience / skills required:

  • Solid editorial background including commissioning and children’s book publishing experience
  • Excellent hands-on editorial skills, good attention to detail and strong copy-editing skills
  • Good visual editing skills (including InDesign) and the ability to work smoothly with designers and illustrators
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be an active contributor surrounding book ideas and titles
