Senior Commissioning Editor

A leading independent children’s publisher is now looking for a Senior Commissioning Editor role to join their editorial department on a 12 month FTC basis. Working closely with the Publishers you will be responsible for managing the development of a renowned fiction and picture book list.  

Key duties:

  • Develop and maintain excellent knowledge of the children’s book publishing market
  • Monitor market trends and identify new market opportunities and commissioning potential
  • Manage your own list ensuring that the publishing projects meeting high quality editorial and design standards
  • Propose acquisitions and projects according to the publishing plan
  • Provide good author, artist and agent care

Experience / skills required:

  • Established experience in a commissioning editorial role with children’s books
  • A good understanding of the children’s book market
  • Experience with children’s picture book and fiction from early readers to YA
  • Excellent communication skills and relationships with authors, agents and artists
  • Line management experience
