Senior Commissioning Editor

Are you passionate about Further Education? Do you want to creatively drive resources and services for teachers and students and commission print and digital vocational materials? A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a commercially-minded and market-focused Senior Commissioning Editor to be part of the Further Education publishing team at an award-winning educational publisher. The company offer hybrid working, with this role being ideally based out of the London office, but they can also consider those based out of their Banbury, Newcastle, Sheffield or Edinburgh offices. The role comes with an excellent salary and benefits package.

The Senior Commissioning Editor, will be responsible for commissioning new products and developing a wide ranging portfolio of print and digital resources across Further Education, with your lists being shaped around your own interests and experience. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Be a key member of a successful FE team
  • Deliver publishing plans in FE
  • Own and drive market research across a range of markets in UK colleges (and schools)
  • Engage with teachers, students, awarding organisations and industry bodies
  • Commission new titles and series based on market needs
  • Work effectively with authors, enabling them to produce quality, market-focused materials
  • Actively manage backlist publishing
  • Work with colleagues to ensure your publishing is customer-focused and well-presented to market
  • Maintain and build influential relationships with key and potential partners in education

The ideal candidate will have proven skills in commissioning print and digital products for the education sector, and a passion for further and vocational education. You might currently be a commissioning editor with good commissioning experience looking for a new challenge and lists of your own. Or you may be an experienced development editor with some commissioning experience looking for a first commissioning challenge. Strong relationship building and networking skills as well as a deep understanding of the needs of teachers and students will be important. Experience of working with awarding bodies would also be beneficial.
