A leading independent children's book publisher in Central London is looking to appoint a Senior Commissioning Editor to work on their Fiction list. This role will be to manage a backlist, and develop the frontlist by identifying market gaps and commissioning new projects.
Key responsibilities of the role:
·Attending market events (fairs, courses, conferences) to develop trends knowledge and identify new market opportunities
·Managing titles through publication
·Developing acquisitions and projects proposals to expand the Fiction list
·Being responsible for commercial aspects of own projects, including budgeting, costings, and schedules
·Training junior staff in the editorial team and managing workloads
·Finding new authors, build and grow relationships with authors and agents
·Liaising with Sales, Marketing, Production and other internal departments to promote new titles and ensure smooth running of the publishing process
In this role, you will be able to demonstrate initiative, commercial awareness and judgement. The ideal candidate will have the ability to take on full title management, and will have a sound background in developing and commissioning children's books and projects. You will be confident negotiating and preparing contracts and managing.
