Senior Designer - 12 Month Contract

We have an amazing Senior Designer 12 month contract opportunity at leading independent children's publisher! Our client based in South East London is looking for a talented Senior Designer to work on a range of quality children's books from baby and picture books to novelty books and fiction with a focus on full colour illustrated book design.

As Senior Designer you will be responsible for ensuring that the highest quality design work is project managed and carried out within the agreed brief, within budget and on schedule. Main duties will include: commissioning illustrators; project managing assigned titles; designing each allocated project in consultation with the illustrator, author and editor; placing work with external suppliers and freelancers; producing cutter guides where required, and working to produce a product which meets legal safety standards; and translating design ideas onto the Mac.

The successful candidate will be an all-rounder with fantastic design acumen, the creativity to generate exciting new ideas, and excellent design software skills including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. You will have experience of commissioning and designing jackets for children's fiction (experience of illustrated children's books other than fiction e.g. picture books, novelties would also be desirable). The ideal candidate will be highly organised and responsible, confident in managing their own projects from conception to completion, happy to deal with authors and illustrators and keen to be in a position to develop this highly respected children's list.
