Senior Development Editor – Textbooks

An academic publisher with one of the most successful track records for growth over the last ten years is looking to recruit a Senior Development Editor to join their Textbooks Team. They will be responsible for managing a range of high-potential textbooks, from contract through to delivery and for leading the Development Team.

Reporting to the Executive Publisher, the main responsibilities include:

  • Managing the development of assigned textbooks and accompanying digital resources
  • Managing high-potential textbooks from pre-signature of contract to Production
  • Setting schedules and managing the delivery of print and digital materials to plan
  • Maximising revenue and profitability potential of projects assigned to the Development team
  • Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with colleagues, authors and editors
  • Managing the Development Editor, helping them develop and achieve objectives
  • Managing the budget and workload for external freelance Development Editors
  • Acquiring an understanding of lecturer and students’ requirements for teaching and learning materials
  • Translating market research into commercially focused action plans
  • Promoting and enhancing the value added by the Development Team to the textbooks
  • Working with key stakeholders to ensure each book/digital component is optimal for market.

The successful candidate will have solid experience of academic textbook publishing, preferably including line management experience. You will be a confident collaborator, an influential communicator in both person and writing, be well organised and have demonstrable project management skills. You will have an excellent commercial awareness and the ability to deal with problems with creative solutions.
