Senior Editor

Our client, one of the leading publishers of books on the creative arts is looking to recruit a creative Senior Editor to join their team in London. You will be working on their expanding list of design, fashion, children's books, and gifts taking projects from manuscript to final proofs, including preparation of sales materials.

Key responsibilities include:

- Working closely with authors and co-publishers ensuring books are produced to a high standard, to budget and on schedule.

- Running a team of freelance designer, illustrators, copy-editors and picture researchers.

- Liaising with author(s), illustrators and publishers to ensure that all stages of approval requirements are met.

- Attending design meetings and working closely with the Creative Director.

- Attending production meetings and keeping production, rights and sales informed of progress on specific titles.

- Working with designers on initial designs and checking book plans and layouts.

- Seeing design through approval stages and working with designer on cover ideas and checking final cover artwork.

- Organising picture lists with authors and where appropriate on certain titles, engaging and briefing freelance picture researchers, negotiating fees and supervising their work and budgets.

- Processing of picture invoices, ensuring physical and digital images are of sufficient quality and checking picture proofs

- Writing catalogue copy and advance information sheets where appropriate.

The successful candidate will have a background of working on highly illustrated books and experience of co-editions would be an advantage. You will have a good eye for detail, excellent organisational skills and the ability to co-ordinate multiple projects on tight schedules and deadlines. You will be a strong communicator and have the ability to build and manage effective working relationships. You will be proficient on a Mac and highly skilled using InDesign.
