Senior Production Editor

Our client is a market leading international Publisher of English Language Teaching (ELT) products, and they are looking to hire a Senior Production Editor on a full-time permanent basis to work hybrid from their bright and open Oxford office, working amongst a friendly and supportive team. The company offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including 28 days holiday (rising to 30 after 2 years) and private healthcare.

Must haves

The preferred candidate will come with experience of digital and print production editorial stages for educational products, and technical knowledge of editorial and authoring tools for interactive content.

About you

With solid experience of managing digital and print production editorial stages, the ideal Senior Production Editor will have technical knowledge of editorial tools (including MS Word style sheets, PDF mark up and authoring tools, ideally Avallain Author). The role will require someone with strong project management skills and good financial awareness, alongside excellent communication and prioritisation skills and a solutions-focused approach. The UK team is small in size but mighty in their impact and work closely cross-functionally with the larger group and their global offices, so we are looking for someone that thrives in an SME environment but who works collaboratively across countries, and demonstrates autonomy and decisiveness.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Publishing Director and working closely with colleagues you will be responsible for the oversight of the production stages of a range of digital and print components of English language teaching and learning materials, in order to successfully deliver products to market according to agreed schedules. Key responsibilities include (amongst others):

  • Demonstrate awareness of the Publishing Strategy and Planning
  • Work closely with in-house and offshore digital developers to ensure digital components are developed in line with briefing documents and delivered on schedule
  • Check and feedback on key stages of the development of digital and print course components and content
  • Provide updates on production schedules for assigned print and digital components
  • Lead and coordinate production schedules, resourcing and delivery of appropriate projects
  • Create briefs for and oversee the work of freelance editors and suppliers
  • Negotiate terms with the freelance production editors in line with the project budget
  • Provide updates on production schedule for assigned components
  • Participate in change management initiatives as required
