Job profiles:

Simon & Schuster Children’s Books has created two new commissioning positions at Editorial Director/Senior Commissioning Editor level, dependent on experience. One role has a fiction focus and reports to the Fiction Publisher. It would suit a highly skilled editor with a bestseller track record and a passion for quality-commercial author-led fiction across all sectors of the market.

The second position reports to the Publishing Director and spans fiction, picture books, non-fiction and graphic novels. It is an entrepreneurial role responsible for proactively seeking out new growth opportunities through IP development and platform-based and personality-led publishing.

Both positions offer an exciting opportunity to join a commercially minded, passionate editorial team within a thriving and dynamic Children’s Publishing division.

The Candidate Profiles:

You will love children’s books and be excited about creating titles which children will ask for on repeat. You must be driven, committed and creative, with excellent proven editorial skills and demonstrable commercial experience relevant to the role you are applying for. With the ability to independently project-manage your list to budget and on schedule within a very busy environment, you will be calm under pressure and thrive on meeting deadlines. You’ll nurture strong in-house relationships, and excel in author, illustrator and talent care. Impeccable awareness of the book and children’s media and entertainment market across the UK and internationally, is essential, as is the ability to work collegiately with Sales, Marketing and PR to build and deliver publishing strategies.

We have big plans for our market-leading children’s list, are in an exciting phase of growth and would love you to be part of that. Please specify in your covering letter which role you are applying for and tell us what makes you perfectly positioned to maximise the opportunity.

Application deadline:

27 January 2023.

We reserve the right to close applications early should we receive a suitable number of applications before this date. Therefore, if you are interested, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Simon & Schuster UK is an equal opportunities employer committed to the goal of building a culturally diverse workforce. We welcome applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
