The Job Profile

Simon & Schuster UK’s, Adult Editorial Fiction team is looking for a commercially savvy, motivated, and entrepreneurial editor to join their vibrant commercial fiction team and commission new authors within the romance space.

Reporting to the Editorial Director, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand the talent on the existing romance list at Simon & Schuster UK.

The Job Role

The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge for the romance genre within the UK and globally and will have connections with authors and agents in this category.

The core responsibilities of this role include but not limited to; commission new titles in the romance and women’s fiction genres,  provide authors and agents with the highest standard of care. Project manage own titles to critical path and liaison with other departments to ensure smooth and effective publishing process.

The Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have published in romance area complemented by strong negotiating skills and a commercial and strategic understanding of the market. They will be able to work across all departments internally to ensure buy-in and engagement for the part of the list and will be able to publish within a busy and collegiate team. They will be aware of trends, reader sentiment, and will be able to publish with a keen interest in social media communities such as TikTok and Reddit.

The ideal candidate would have experience in editing fiction and managing the publishing process. You should be confident in managing your workload and be a proactive self-starter. You should be able to work quickly and decisively, taking decisions and putting them into action and demonstrate high-level editorial competency.
