Software Developer

An opportunity has arisen for a highly organised and quality-focused Developer to join a leading international Educational Publisher based in Oxford. Note there are two openings for this 9 month fixed-term contract offering an excellent salary package.

The Developer will work to manually refactor Flash activities to HTML and ensure they work within the company's web application. The Developer will be working to a tight time-line and making strategic decisions in collaboration with other team members to improve the speed of the project and reduce risk. You will have the freedom to select appropriate technologies to use to solve conversion challenges, while paying special attention to ensuring functionality across a range of devices and browsers and fidelity of the HTML version to the original Flash source file. Main responsibilities include:

  • Refactoring Flash educational content to HTML, clarifying functionality and requirements with editorial team.
  • Deciding appropriate technologies to use to provide quickest and most accurate conversion possible.
  • Working closely with other members of the development team to ensure consistent approach to conversion across all content, and to share ideas and knowledge.

The successful Developer will have software development experience, working in an Agile environment. You will have previous experience of JavaScript as well as Git and NodeJS. As well as willingness to quickly learn new languages you will have the ability to conform to established in-house coding conventions. Experience with any of the following is desirable but not essential: TypeScript, Angular 7, RxJS, CreateJS, Animate CC or Flash and ActionScript 2, as is prior experience of working on a Flash conversion project.
