Rights and Sales Assistant - Children's Books

Reports to: Senior Rights Manager, Head of Sales

Location: Leicester

The Role:

Sweet Cherry Publishing is an award-winning children’s book publisher and we’re hiring for a Rights Assistant. This entry-level role is ideal for a graduate looking to learn more about international book markets and publishing rights while navigating a fast-paced and exciting environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the senior rights manager with account management
  • Supporting the planning and organisation of trade book fairs
  • Preparing information and files to submit to rights clients and agents
  • Supporting the negotiation of rights deals
  • Assisting with translation rights contracts and invoicing
  • Tracking submissions and inputting information into a number of databases
  • Attending UK and international trade book fairs, as and when required
  • Researching international book markets and providing market reports
  • Supporting the sales, rights, marketing and publicity teams with admin and research tasks, as and when required

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Great geographical and foreign language knowledge
  • Passion for reading and a keen interest in book publishing
  • Energy and passion to drive the business forward
  • Excellent IT skills and experience learning new software quickly
  • An understanding of Adobe InDesign and Acrobat PDF
  • Excellent email manner and customer service skills
  • Confidence in business meetings and office environments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Great mathematic, accounting and currency skills
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • An all-rounded self starter who can hit the ground running

Working Hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. 9am – 5pm. (30 minute or 1 hour lunch unpaid)

Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays

Starting salary: Based on experience
