Editor - Technical Publishing

Due to substantial growth a publisher of technical learning content is looking to recruit an experienced Technical Editor to oversee the commissioning of author talent in order to meet new and growing opportunities within the company’s successful publishing programme.

Reporting to the Product Manager, the Technical Lead will work directly with a remote team of Editors to acquire some of the best subject matter experts in the world, and find the best talent available. The Technical Acquisitions Lead will assess a substantial number of book outlines per month for a number of their best-selling products, and work with the Research department for technical coverage.

Some of the key responsibilities will involve:

• Author acquisition and gatekeeping: overseeing the commissioning of subject matter experts and scorecarding them for tech knowledge, English language and marketability, with a view to improving the quality of the organisation’s author selection.
• Ensuring that the required number of outlines are delivered every month and that they are spread evenly throughout the month
• Managing pipeline of poor language authors, ensuring that they are sent to Language Support Editors
• Checking product information and other metadata
• Ensuring smooth handover of authors to content development
• Coaching Acquisition Editors and authors in the preparation of book outlines

This role is ideal for a critical thinker who can identify and articulate weaknesses in a book’s organisation and writing, and who is able to adopt a coaching and mentoring role with authors and a team of Acquisition Editors, to help them shape their books, thereby creating engaging technical content that enables readers to learn easily about new technology.

The successful person will be:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Experienced as an Acquisitions/Commissioning Editor or related editorial/publishing experience from a similar technical publishing background
• Strong affinity with/a natural interest in the tech industry
• A strong leader as you will need to ensure that the teams of Acquisition Editors are able to work to given deadlines
• Able to travel to Mumbai once every quarter
