Temp Head of Publishing

Do you have experience running a publishing team working on academic journals? Have you worked for a membership organisation before? We are looking for a Head of Publishing to lead the publishing division of a scientific membership organisation in central London. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of journals including production, editorial strategy, subscriptions, etc. You need to be able to hit the ground running and have excellent knowledge of academic publishing. This role is to start ASAP for 3 months with possible extensions.

Key duties:

  • Manage the Journals Portfolio including subscriptions, advertising, production and distribution
  • Consult on the planning development across all media for internal customers
  • Set and manage budgets
  • Monitor journals’ production and distribution
  • Manage online platform
  • Lead publishing team of 3

Experience / skills required:

  • Extensive experience working in academic publishing ideally STM
  • Experience setting budgets and creating and implementing publishing strategy
  • Proven track record of coordinating complex projects, dealing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to negotiate and handle contracts
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
