Temp Project Editor X2 (Oxford)

Do you have experience in book editorial project management and can hit the ground running in a new role? Are you an excellent collaborator with strong project management skills? We are looking for a Temp Project Editor to join a leading trade publisher in Oxford! You will manage the delivery of publishing projects working closely with editors, designers and authors. This role is to start ASAP, until the end of April to cover the end of a maternity leave.

Project Editor Key duties:

  • Manage the delivery of assigned publishing projects, keeping the Commissioning Editor and author informed of project problems or delays
  • Work closely with designers and production team to manage books through production, including meeting schedules and budget
  • Brief the copy editor/proof-reader, hand text over to design with all relevant information, keep text handover information up to date and address queries
  • Review proofs ensuring compliance to specifications and incorporate any amendments to the manuscript
  • Liaise with Commissioning Editor and Designer as necessary, including checking proofs and dealing with any problems encountered in production
  • Ensure delivery of PDFs to the Production team once the project is complete
  • Assist with marketing copy where required
  • Code and process invoices for commitments and seek approval from Editorial Manager
  • Develop and manage the portfolio of packagers, freelance proof-readers, copy editors, indexers, structural editors as required and negotiate fees and monitor quality
  • Contribute to the department’s editorial guidelines and to the publishing programme schedule including tracking the progress of all titles
  • Keep the author informed during the publishing process and consult as required

Project Editor Experience / skills required:

  • Experience in book editorial project management
  • Experience working with children’s and or black and white books
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills, able to read critically and swiftly
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to propose solutions, with a strong sense of ownership, responsibility and accountability
  • Theologically aware, biblically literate and spiritually sensitive
  • A commitment to continuous learning, flexible and able to multi-task
  • Proficient in MS Outlook and MS Excel, advanced in MS Word and Adobe InDesign
  • Good numeracy and a publishing post graduate qualification is advantageous
