Temporary Editorial Administrator (part-time)

Calling all aspiring Editors dreaming of getting some books publishing experience under their belt! We are working with a fantastic publisher of academic books, journals and visual digital collections who require immediate editorial assistance on a temporary basis fr 3 days a week; they wish to appoint a temp Editorial Administrator from now until December 2024 to provide admin and editorial support to their team focusing on Social Sciences titles (including very successful lists in Politics, International Studies, Middle East and African studies, and much more!)

Details of the role:

You will report into the Senior Commissioning Editor for the Social Science list and will be tasked with providing support across all elements of the editorial process, assisting the editors as they liaise with authors and other departments such as Production and marketing teams.

Your day to day will vary depending on priorities, although main responsibilities will entail:

  • Overseeing the sending and signing of contributor contracts
  • Arranging ordering of book copies
  • Commissioning peer review and obtaining endorsement for new pre-publication projects
  • Updating records for books
  • Handling and responding to internal and external queries, and escalating to appropriate departments where needed
  • Filing and archiving paperwork
  • Maintaining company database (Biblio)



The ideal candidate:

This is an incredible opportunity to get some hands-on experience within the editorial team of a prestigious book publisher, and we are looking for candidates that will show a keen interest in developing their publishing knowledge and industry experience. You will ideally have:

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task and redefine priorities according to workload and urgency
  • Great time management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills in all interactions with both internal and external contacts
  • A genuine interest in Academic publishing
  • Appreciation for high quality content, author care and brand reputation
  • Competency across the Microsoft Office package (particularly Excel)
