Senior Project Editor – minimum 6-month contract (maternity cover)

Unbound is a uniquely innovative, award-winning and rapidly growing publishing platform. We bring a community of book lovers together with a diverse range of creative talent from established literary names to bloggers, journalists, YouTube stars, designers and artists. All our titles are crowdfunded by an audience passionate about making them available to the general reader. 

Overview

Reporting to the interim Head of Editorial, we are looking for an experienced project editor with proven trade editorial experience to cover a maternity leave. The successful candidate will personally project manage from delivery to publication a selection of Unbound’s wide-ranging list of fiction, non-fiction and illustrated titles. It’s a chance to work with an exciting list of authors that includes Tom Cox, Jackie Morris, Jonathan Meades, Musa Okwonga, Alice Jolly, Patrick McCabe, and Kate Lister. This is not a commissioning role.

We are looking for an adaptable, proactive individual who is happy to roll up their sleeves and take a collaborative approach to all tasks undertaken. Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

• Project manage multiple and varied titles to the highest editorial standards, keeping to critical path and budget
• Take the lead on author communications throughout the editorial and production processes
• Liaise with in-house departments to ensure production schedule, cover design, promotional materials are all to critical path
• Commission and liaise with freelance structural editors, copyeditors, proofreaders and indexers, choosing the best team for the job, monitoring standards and keeping to budget
• Manage the legal review process where relevant
• Manage proof collation and the entire corrections process accurately and efficiently
• Commission, design and manage the production of plate sections, maps, picture and text permissions and other approval processes as necessary

Requirements:

• 5+ years’ proven trade editorial experience
• Excellent proofreading and copyediting skills
• Excellent copywriting skills
• Highly organised with an ability to set priorities within a busy workload
• Enthusiasm for innovation and meeting new challenges
• Working knowledge of Consonance an advantage
