
Senior Commissioning Editors
UniPress is looking for experienced and exceptional Commissioning Editors with a passion for well written, thoughtfully designed books to join our team working flexibly from home and in central London.
Founded four years ago, we are an award-winning, independent publisher of world-class non-fiction, working collaboratively with leading international publishing partners. We work with expert authors and the best illustrators and photographers to visualise stories about life on our planet and the way in which we relate to the world around us.
We have openings for two positions to consolidate and build on our strengths in natural history and science and to extend our range of trade titles. We are open to candidates from either a senior commissioning background or those looking to make their next career move into a role with more responsibility and scope for development.
Working with our small and dedicated team, you will be responsible for the research and development of new book concepts to include sourcing and managing authors, developmental editing, budgeting, scheduling, briefing designers and illustrators, and starting up projects with our live book teams.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, commission and work closely with the best authors for our proven subject areas
Research and develop book concepts using design and illustration to complement great texts
Take the initiative to identify trends and opportunities in the marketplace
Set budgets and schedules, and co-ordinate start-up meetings
Build on the growing success of our publishing programme and demonstrate a commercial understanding of our business model
Skills and Experience
A track record of sourcing and working with high-calibre authors and contributors
An appreciation and understanding of design and production in illustrated publishing
A passion for examining topics in nature and natural history, popular science, history and culture
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
The ability to collaborate closely with colleagues in design, sales and rights to produce first-class concepts for an international market
