Foreign Rights Production Coordinator

Role Summary

Supporting a busy and dynamic foreign rights team with post-sale fulfilment for both co-edition and license rights sales across selected territories worldwide. This is a unique and varied opportunity for a self-motivated professional to use their initiative, problem solving and multi-tasking skills. You will be responsible for managing and tracking the production process of orders from the moment of sale through to finished copies. Day to day you will be liaising closely externally with international customers, and internally with a number of teams such as production, design and editorial in addition to your foreign rights colleagues. The role is integral to the foreign rights team, ensuring that key deadlines for customers are met and that the production process runs smoothly. 

You will be working on the production of exciting new debuts, award winning and best-selling children's books with customers from around the world, across a wide range of formats such as picture books, non-fiction, novelty and major licensed brands.

Responsibilities

Co-edition Sales

  • Liaise with production team and co-edition customers to ensure timely adherence to agreed print schedules.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining up-to-date records on the progress of co-edition printing.
  • Lead regular work-in-progress meetings between production and foreign rights to monitor and drive co-edition print schedules. Communicate and resolve any customer production issues.
  • Request co-edition files and translation copies for customers. 
  • Liaising with internal creative teams regarding the availability of files for new titles and regular attendance to creative work-in-progress meetings.
  • Communicating relevant information from creatives on updates or revisions to origination schedules for new titles in development.
  • Liaise with pre-press design support and, at times, relevant editorial teams about customer co-edition PDFs and communicate required corrections.
  • Liaise with co-edition customers to secure plotter and advance copy approvals.
  • Responsible for ensuring customers' shipping requirements are communicated with the production team and secure timely carton label approvals ahead of ex-works.
  • Providing shipping documents and draft commercial invoices for customs clearance to customers as required.

License Sales

  • Request hi-res files and translation copies for customers and respond to file queries.
  • Liaise between foreign publishers and in-house pre-press and editorial teams to approve sub-licensed translated files for printing.
  • Chase up local publication dates and author copies, and update databases accordingly.

General

  • Manage the department's translated copy archive and distribute approved advance author copies to editorial teams.
  • Updating databases and mailing lists.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience in book production and understanding the co-edition process.
  • Interest in international publishing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and administrative skills, with a close eye for detail and keen awareness of deadlines.
  • An understanding of the importance of a post-sales and production support role in relation to customer service and business development.
  • Enjoy working and making a positive contribution as part of a team.
  • Experience of multi-tasking and prioritising a busy work-load with competing demands on your time without close supervision.
  • Able to use initiative and work calmly under pressure with a 'can-do'/proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Foreign language skills advantageous, but not required.
