Academic and Communities Marketing Executive

Contract:         Full time (35 hours per week), permanent contract

Salary:            £22,000 to £26,000 per annum depending on experience

Job Summary

Yale University Press London is seeking a Marketing Executive to be responsible for academic and specialist marketing outreach. The successful candidate will have design skills, experience of social media, email marketing, exceptional time management skills and excellent attention to detail.

Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, Academic and Communities the postholder will be required to undertake marketing outreach for our books to academic and specialist communities including:

  • Designing marketing collateral
  • Creating social media campaigns
  • Email marketing
  • Website management and analytics reporting
  • Researching opportunities for academic and specialist marketing outreach.

Core Duties

  • Plan, design and produce adverts, brochures, flyers and showcards as required
  • Liaise with external printers, list brokers and mailing houses
  • Be responsible for all aspects of print and digital advertising artwork production and supply, to specified deadlines
  • Lead on social media campaigns targeted at academic/specialist markets and events
  • Design and create digital assets with a good eye and high degree of accuracy
  • Schedule posts and research academic social media accounts to promote specific books and re-post relevant content
  • Seasonally refresh and maintain brand elements of Yale’s social media accounts
  • Create and reuse content for our Little Histories social media accounts for ongoing series promotion
  • Design, produce and send out the general monthly e-newsletter, monthly history newsletter and targeted campaigns to the academic/specialist market as required
  • Maintain customer contact lists and associated forms and automations within MailChimp, adding new subscribers, cleaning the list regularly and troubleshooting any problems
  • Create campaigns to increase mailing list subscribers
  • Oversee all curated aspects of the Yale University Press London website, including creating and updating visuals, news items, scrollers and banners
  • Undertake all regular administrative tasks connected to the website, including recent publication updates; processing data collection/monitoring online forms and shopping cart; collecting and uploading jacket updates
  • Contribute to the evolution of the site and any web development work
  • Collate online analytics regularly for all Yale digital channels plus web sales and circulate a regular report that assesses our marketing success against time/resource invested
  • Research opportunities for academic and specialist outreach to societies, associations, organisations, conferences, academics and arrange promotions including, delegate inserts, events, and collaboration
  • Research lecturers for textbook inspection copy campaigns and maintain the in-house lecturer grid
  • Attend academic book launches and conferences as required 
  • Create, design and upload relevant content for the academic community on the Yale Books Blog

Person Specification – Key knowledge & skills

Essential:

  • Ability to organise workload, manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop)
  • Experience of designing marketing collateral and digital assets
  • Experience with social media marketing
  • Familiarity with online analytics
  • Experience of email marketing software and maintaining a contacts database
  • A good eye for effective marketing materials
  • Confidence with digital platforms and a problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to undertake research
  • Ability to check own work to a high standard of accuracy
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Awareness of legal considerations including data protection law and copyright
  • Experience of using a CMS
  • Copywriting skills
  • Familiarity with pre-press protocols
  • Familiarity with website management and basic HTML coding
  • Experience in a marketing role in academic publishing
  • Some knowledge of current academic courses and disciplines
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
