General Manager – Paperback Shop
1) Describe your role.
At Paperback shop I work alongside an amazing team of dedicated people who all enable us to not only be a successful marketplace seller but also the UK’s first fully virtual wholesaler. My responsibilities span areas including business development, sales, pricing and purchasing.
2) What do you like best about your role?
I have worked at Paperback shop for nine years now and entered the company as a Customer Service Advisor so my favourite part of my role is that I have been encouraged to grow and develop. I also still come in every day with the same enthusiasm I had for the company on day one, which I put down to how we are never standing still; I love being kept so busy with new challenges.
3) Which new projects or titles are you working on at the moment?
We have a very established retail business across the many online marketplaces, but I am also working with the team to really stretch our wings as the UK’s biggest supplier of books in our newer venture as wholesalers.
4) What skills do you need for your role?
We are constantly growing and taking advantage of new opportunities so it is vital I can be reactive and flexible. Communication between departments is also key, I need to keep myself up to date with all aspects of the business to ensure I can make the right decisions and understand the impact these have upon each area of the company.
5) What advice would you give to those looking to work in the industry
My biggest advice would be to find yourself a company as supportive and innovative as Paperback shop – the team you work with is vital to not only the company’s success, but also your own.
